Three people, two men and a woman, are in critical condition and receiving medical treatment after being injured in a shooting at a liquor store in Pienaar, Mpumalanga. The shooting caused the death of six people at the scene and two others, a man and a woman, later died from their injuries in the hospital.

The shooting occurred on Saturday morning and a team of experts has been formed to investigate the incident. The motive for the shooting is still unknown. Two VW Polos with bullet holes were found at the scene, and one victim was found dead inside one of the vehicles.

"There is a team of experts in the investigation field that has been assembled to investigate this incident. A 72-hour plan has been activated subsequent to the incident. No one has been arrested so far and police are still in pursuit of the perpetrators," the South African Police Service (SAPS) said, SA News reported.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, strongly condemned the incident. He expressed concern over the recent shootings in the province but assured that the police are working hard to quickly bring those responsible to justice.

The SAPS has asked anyone with knowledge that could help catch the suspects to call the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS App. All information will be kept confidential, and callers can choose to remain anonymous.

Shooting incidents in South Africa have been a huge concern over the years, stemming from a variety of factors including criminal activity, gang violence, political unrest, and personal disputes.

In cities, gang violence has led to a high number of shootings. Gangs are involved in drug trafficking, extortion, and turf wars, which often result in shootouts.

Xenophobic violence has also led to shooting incidents, especially when tensions rise between local South Africans and foreign nationals. These shootings often occur during violent protests or attacks on foreign-owned businesses.

In recent years, the rate of shootings has remained high, especially in high-crime areas and amid the ongoing challenges of violence and crime.

However, authorities continue to crack down on gang-related violence and organized crime, with increasing calls for more action to prevent mass shootings and violence in public spaces.
