President Cyril Ramaphosa predicted that African National Congress (ANC) will be winning in the 2024 general elections.

While addressing ANC supporters, Ramaphosa noted that party divisions were the reason why ANC has been losing support in recent years. However, the president noted that it was the past but now, the energized leadership will ensure ANC's win in the 2024 general elections.

"The work that has been done I saw yesterday in KwaDukuza, I could see that the leadership is energizing... our membership, our volunteers, and our people. With that I can smell victory for the ANC," Ramaphosa said, Mail & Guardian reported on Monday.

He continued, "I want to encourage you to continue uniting this glorious movement, and the divisions that we had in the past, we [will] put them aside and let us unite this important vehicle of the liberation of our people."

The event was held in Imbali, which is 15 km away from Pietermaritzburg city. During the event, Ramaphosa recalled liberal heroes like former General Secretary of the South African Communist Party, Moses Mabhida and ANC former leader Johnny Makhathini.

"They did a lot to ensure we get our freedom. Being at Heroes Acre just lifts our spirit," Ramaphosa said about Mabhida and Makhathini.

KwaZulu-Natal ANC members are known for opposing Ramaphosa's leadership. In fact, during the 2017 national conference, the province's party members supported Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to be the president of the ANC.

However, she was appointed as minister in the presidency responsible for women, youth and persons with disabilities during the cabinet reshuffle last week.

Last year in December, during the ANC presidential elections, former health minister Zweli Mkhize stood against Ramaphosa and KwaZulu-Natal members supported Mkhize instead of Ramaphosa.

However, Ramaphosa secured his second term as President of the African National Congress, which means he will be running for his second term as president of South Africa in 2024.

After securing his second term as president of ANC, Ramaphosa announced after two months that he will be reshuffling the cabinet and also announced the first-ever electricity minister of the country, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.

Despite appointing Ramokgopa as a new electricity minister, citizens don't look very happy as per their comments on social media, especially after Eskom announced that they will switch to Stage 5 load-shedding on Tuesday while people were expecting Stage 1.

Although Ramaphosa discussed his plans last week to tackle major issues like energy challenges, poverty, reduce unemployment, crime rate, corruption, and the rising cost of living in the cabinet meeting.

Ramaphosa is serving as the president of South Africa since February 2018. He previously served as the secretary-general of the ANC from 1991 to 1997. He first ran for the presidency in South Africa in 1999, but it was Thabo Mbeki who was elected at the time.
