President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his promise to complete the Eastern Rail Line and support the development of the Anambra Basin during an interactive session with South East leaders as part of his official visit to Enugu State over the weekend.

Eastern Rail Line connects Port Harcourt to Maiduguri and Anambra Basin is a significant energy reserve with an estimated 1 billion barrels of oil and 30 billion cubic feet of gas.

During the meeting, former Minister of Power Professor Chinedu Nebo, and Enugu State native, Chris Ugoh, raised important issues, urging Tinubu to focus on finishing the remaining parts of the Eastern Rail Line, highlighting its potential to increase non-oil exports and drive economic growth, as per the official statement shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

"The Eastern Rail Line is a work in progress. I inherited some of these critical issues and am committed to resolving them. On the gas infrastructure, gas is a viable alternative to petrol. There is no better time to invest in it, and we will work on it together," the president said.

Tinubu praised the cooperation of the governors and promised to address the concerns raised. He expressed his gratitude, saying he was lucky to have good governors to work with and that together they would achieve their goals.

During the visit, the President launched several state government projects, including the GTC Smart Green School, the New Haven/Bisalla Road, the International Conference Center, the Command-and-Control Center, and 150 patrol vehicles with surveillance cameras.

The president also virtually commissioned other important projects and stressed that investing in security infrastructure would lead to rapid development.

Tinubu highlighted the impressive progress in Enugu, saying it shows what can be achieved through collaboration. He praised Governor Peter Mbah for leading the state toward 21st-century development, noting the technology and innovation in place and how effectively resources are being used at the local level.

The president also commended Mbah for his inclusive leadership and expressed confidence in the role of the private sector in governance. He assured the governor that together they could achieve great things for Nigeria, praising his dedication to security and development for the present and future.
