President Tinubu, UN, US Condemn Deadly Bomb Attacks In Borno's Gwoza

President Bola Tinubu, the United Nations and the United States condemned bomb attacks on Sunday in Tashan Mararaba located in Gwoza town, Borno State, which resulted in the deaths of at least 18 people.

The attacks were believed to be carried out by female suicide bombers, who targeted a wedding, a hospital, and a funeral in Gwoza. Spokesman for the Borno State Police Command Nahum Daso said a total of three bomb blasts took place over the weekend.

Tinubu issued a statement on Sunday and pledged that his administration will take action against those responsible for causing harm, taking lives and disrupting law and order in the country.

The president described the attacks as desperate acts of terror, and assured that those responsible for the violence will face justice, emphasizing that these attacks were isolated incidents.

He pledged his government's commitment to preventing fear and ensuring security for all citizens. The president expressed condolences to the victims, families of the deceased and the people of Borno State affected by the attacks.

The United States Mission in Nigeria also condemned the suicide bomb attacks by sharing a post on social media.

"These reprehensible acts of violence show a cruel and heartless disregard for human life. We offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed and wish a full recovery to the injured," the United States Mission in Nigeria wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

It added, "These abhorrent attacks are a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorism in the region. The U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria is committed to our partnership with Nigeria as it works to defeat terrorism and bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice."

United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria Mohamed Fall also shared similar sentiments on Sunday, saying that he is "horrified by this attack on civilian populations and condemn such acts in the strongest terms," Punch reported.

"I stand in solidarity with the Government of Nigeria and the families and communities of all those affected," he added. "I have reached out to the Borno State Government to express my condolences and offer any support that the United Nations and the humanitarian community can provide to aid the victims of the attack."

The Chairman of the Northern States Governors' Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya also condemned the act of terror and sympathized with victims, government and people of Borno State over the Gworza bombings.
