President Bola Tinubu expressed his happiness over the reopening of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, calling it another massive achievement in 2024.

The Warri Refinery resumed operations on Monday, just weeks after NNPC Limited restarted the Port Harcourt Refinery, which produces 60,000 barrels per day, in November 2024, as per the official statement shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

With WRPC now in operation after several years of inactivity, the president reaffirmed his administration's commitment to increasing local refining capacity and turning Nigeria into a key hub for downstream industrial activities in Africa.

Tinubu expressed confidence that with the Warri Refinery now running at 60% capacity, his administration's plan for energy efficiency and security is on track. He praised the management of NNPC, led by Mele Kyari, for their efforts in restoring Nigeria's position as a major oil-producing country.

The president shared his joy over the reopening of the Warri Refinery, saying it would boost Nigerians' hope for a brighter future. He also highlighted that this achievement, along with the earlier success at the Port Harcourt Refinery, is a great way to end the year.

He expressed satisfaction that NNPC Limited is following through on his directive to get all four refineries back to full operation.

Tinubu congratulated Mele Kyari and his team at NNPCL for their hard work in restoring Nigeria's national pride and positioning the country as a hub for crude oil refining in Africa.

The president urged NNPCL to speed up repairs on the Kaduna Refinery and the second refinery in Port Harcourt, which has a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day, to strengthen Nigeria's role as a global energy provider.

WRPC will focus on producing and storing important products like straight-run kerosene (SRK), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and heavy and light Naphtha.

Earlier this month, Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced that it has started exporting petrol, also known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), to countries including Cameroon, Ghana, Angola, and South Africa.

Dangote Industries' vice president of oil and gas, Devakumar Edwin mentioned that in addition to petrol, diesel was being exported globally, and jet fuel was being sent in large quantities to European markets.
