EWSETA Chief Executive Officer Mpho Mookapele said that EWSETA is currently upskilling employees to educate them about wind turbine operation, biogas installation, microgrid and battery energy storage operation, solar PV manufacture, design and installation.

Speaking at the 14th Policy Dialogue Forum of the International Task Force on Teachers for Education in Illovo, located in Johannesburg said that this kind of recognition and compensation can bring a sense of pride and purpose among potential teachers, motivating them to join this profession.

The Electricity Minister noted that the power utility has received 3,510 megawatts (MW) of capacity in the last year which helped the power stations to operate smoothly. He noted that there is still additional work remaining at Tutuka, Kendal, Matla and other power stations.

The program is free and funded by the NSG to support and empower traditional leaders to help the communities in various aspects, including creating sustainable jobs and building an active rural citizenry that will eventually support the economic development of the country.

DRDAR Member of the Executive Council (MEC) Nonkqubela Pieters said that the program will be implemented by the department's Rural Appropriation Technology Unit (RATU) and it will be cost-effective as no tenders were issued for project construction.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the allocation of funds on Wednesday during the 2024 Budget Speech. He shared that these allocations include R11.6 billion for the 2023 wage agreement, R27.3 billion for infrastructure, and R1.4 billion for the NHI.
